Obama!

6 days until the election! We're not there yet.

Obama the socialist? What does the socialist presidential candidate have to say about this?

Nuns, Monty Python, and Terrorists

Ok, I have a few more videos I want to post and share.
But first, what seems to be going on in the campaign at the moment?

Obama: still going steady. Polls are up in favor of him. He continues with his message of change, and is campaigning in many battleground states. (Come on Ohio!)

McCain: running a very strange campaign. he himself seems confused like he doesn't know which directly he should be pushing his campaign in... I'm sure there are a million different republicans behind the scenes shouting to him different things to say and do. But Sarah Palin (and McCain's wife) seem to be going strong, criticizing, not Obama's campaign and his policies, but Obama himself... At recent Republican rallies, they were able to rouse up the crowd to a mob mentality status. People shouted out "Arab", "terrorist", "kill him", "treason"... all sorts of nice things... (Not that being an Arab is bad of course.... but we know what they are thinking and anyway it's just not true...)
Economic conservatives, I can respect. They are educated and have specific ideas on the best way the economy can work. And social conservatives themselves aren't bad people.... but come on people, just go already to wikipedia and read Obama's biography.... or his facebook page!

And by the way this "terrorist" that Obama is consorting with... Bill Ayers, in a far left party in the 1960s, participated in the blowing up of several buildings and statues, no one was killed...

Fast forward... "Bill Ayers and Barack Obama at one time lived in the same neighborhood in the city of Chicago, and both had worked on education reform in the state of Illinois. The two met 'at a luncheon meeting about school reform.'Obama was named to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge Project Board of Directors to oversee the distribution of grants in Chicago. Later in 1995, Ayers hosted 'a coffee' for 'Mr. Obama's first run for office.' The two served on the board of a community anti-poverty group, the Woods Fund of Chicago, between 2000 and 2002, during which time the board met twelve times."

Oh my god, how dare he!!?!!!?!!

And where is Mr. Ayers now? " a professor in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, holding the titles of Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar." Oh yes, definitely clear connection between Obama and this "terrorist"... especially when Obama was 8 years old when these bombing took place...

Is this the best ammunition with which they have to attack? What is this saying about the McCain campaign? About America?? Does the Republican campaign think that Americans are this ignorant? Are they?

Anyway, so onto the videos!

First one. A 106 year old American nun in Rome is voting from abroad for the first time since 1952! Now who would an elderly white very religious catholic woman vote for?

Next. What does John Cleese think of Sarah Palin?

Biden-Palin Debate

For all you out there who missed the debate, this sums it up pretty well: http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/vp-debate-open-palin-biden/727421/

I am just finding really that these satirical clips can really expose a lot about these candidates. All of the candidate's campaigns are just contradicting each other completely so that many voters don't know what to think or who to believe. As a result, they just cling to one position that they have heard, that suits them best, true or not, dismissing everything else that they hear.
Why must the more efficient way to campaign these days be to turn your opposition's name into mud?

Memorable Palin moments

My favorite part of the last Katie Couric interview with Sarah Palin:
"Couric: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?
Palin: I’ve read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.
Couric: What, specifically?
Palin: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.
Couric: Can you name a few?
Palin: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news, too. Alaska isn’t a foreign country, where it’s kind of suggested, 'wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

No one was accusing you of being too far from DC to know about its politics, Madame Palin, we do live in a time where internet transmits information instantly across the world.... we just wanted a name... you know.... NY Times, Newsweek, Time Magazine, Journal of Foreign Affairs, Star Magazine.... no, guess not....

First post?

I am not really sure how to do a blog, as this is the first one I have written... but hopefully this will be just a little place where I can post the many links to articles/TV clips that I find interesting and relevant to now, I guess now mostly related to the elections, possibly with some random thoughts. I'm sure it will be biased with my opinions, but... well this is my blog.

So for today:

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is one for my favorite shows now. I'd never seen it before recently, but I think it is amazing how they cover current events, synthesizing stories of the day while exposing hypocrisies. The show seems pretty well informed, although it is best to keep up with news on your own additionally to understand completely the specific clips that they make fun of. The staff is definitely liberally biased, but I feel that they do a fairly good job of not forcing that biased on the show (although sometimes guests do). You can watch full episodes on http://www.thedailyshow.com/ (EDIT: now that we are getting closer to actual election day (10/18) I find that they are being more blatant with who they are voting for)

But my first recommended clips:

This is from Monday. After watching the debate and the spins afterward, I felt like everyone how already had their mind made up didn't budge at all, so it was interesting to see real swing voters and how they talk.

I thought this was a really interesting interview of a movie that I now want to see. It is amazing to me how in the world, religion can justify any action from the President of the United States to Al Quaeda. Faith can be a great thing, but if it is so pliable to adapt to anything.... obviously we need to think of some other justification to do things.

Oh, and going backwards in time, I also recommend: http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/palin-hillary-open/656281/
If you've seen the Katie Couric interview, also watch Tina Fey's 2nd appearance as Palin from Sept. 27th. Funny, but funny because it is so close to the truth.

Honestly, although I ardently support Obama, I don't hate McCain, and do think that he would be an improvement over Bush... but any hope that the world would not be over if republicans were elected was slain when Sarah Palin was named running mate. What can you imagine her doing as VP? Foreign policy is out of the question unless it is attending a foreign leaders family function.... she may be able to do some national policy if someone tells her what she should be doing. I wouldn't trust her to know what's best for the country on her own..... but that sounds like more the position of an intern rather than VP...hmmmm

I'm sure more to come...
